WPC–ETA Approval in India
Introduction
This approval provided by Department of Consumer Affairs is required to obtain the model approval of any weight or measure. Before starting the sale or distribution of any weighing and measuring instrument, its manufacturer / importer needs to obtain the model approval of the product. Every model has different technical specifications that need to be approved by the notified testing laboratory, under the Legal Metrology (Approval of Models) Rules, 2011 both for mechanical and digital model.
Who can apply?
According to section 22 of legal metrology act, a manufacturer or importer of any weight, measure or measuring instrument shall obtain approval of model from the Director of Legal Metrology, GOI.
Process of Model Approval for Weight and Measuring Instruments
- Filing the application with requisites Fee
- Submitting the physical Sample to lab
- Scrutiny by the Department
- Grant of the Model Approval Certificate

- Business Licence of the Manufacturer in English as well as in English Language
- Trademark Certificate Copy
- Sealing Diagram and Provision, Sketch and drawing of arrangements and Installation include details of construction
- PCB Layout
- Circuit Diagram
- Block Diagram
- Manual Copy of the Product
- Accuracy Class of the Product
- Detailed Note About Product - It should be on Company Letterhead
- Undertaking that company will not make any alteration in product before or after sale it should on company Letterhead
- Sample of MRP Sticker to be tag on the Product
- Manufacturer Authorization for AIR to Sale product in India
- Probable use of the Device
- Protection of calibration
- External Calibration Process using weights
- Quality list of the product
- Supplementary or Additional information of Device
- Label of the device which will be used in India
Documents required from AIR - (In case of Foreign Manufacture or brand owner do not have any Branch office or Liaison Office India)
- Import -Export License Copy
- PAN Card of the Company.
- Proof of Office Address and Business Unit in India
- Memorandum of Association and Article of Association
- Detailed note on Business activity of company on the letterhead
- 4 Photograph of all the Directors
- 2 ID of All directors (Aadhar card is mandatory)
- Signed Balance sheet of Last 2 years
- Sample of MRP Sticker to be tag on the Product
- AIR Email id and Contact No.
- Undertaking/Declaration Letter Regarding No Altercation
